Edwin Diaz records save

Edwin Diaz pitched a perfect ninth inning to record his 26th save of the season in Seattle's win over the Orioles Tuesday night. He struck out one.

Fantasy Implications: Diaz quickly righted the ship after Thursday's clunker when he lost his first game since July 8. The 23-old right-hander had picked up six straight saves in as many appearances prior to Thursday, allowing no runs and only one hit in that span. For the year, Diaz now has 70 strikeouts over 51.1innings, and is 26-for-30 in save opportunities. Diaz is one of Major League's elite closers, and should be used in any fantasy setting.

Casey Lawrence optioned to Triple-A

Casey Lawrence was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.

Fantasy Implications: Lawrence, who is unavailable to pitch the next couple of days following his four-inning outing on Monday, was optioned to Tacoma on Tuesday. Since being recalled to Seattle on July 28, the 29-year-old right-hander was 1-0 with a 5.54 ERA and 1.46 WHIP. He did record a fine 18/2 K/9 over 13 innings, but was subject to the long-ball, surrendering four home runs in that span (2.8 HR/9). In a corresponding move, the Mariners recalled Sam Gaviglio from the Rainiers.

Andrew Albers will start Tuesday

Andrew Albers had his contract purchased from Triple-A Tacoma Tuesday, and was added to Seattle's 25-man roster. He will start Tuesday night's game against the Orioles.

Fantasy Implications: Albers, who was acquired in a trade with Atlanta for cash on August 11, will be the 16th pitcher to start a game for the Mariner's this season. The franchise record is 17 back in 1977. Albers did not pitch for the Raniers, but was 12-3 with a 2.61 ERA this year for Triple-A Gwinnett while under control of the Braves. The 31-year-old left-hander last pitched in the Majors in 2016 for Minnesota, compiling a 5.82 ERA and 1.94 WHIP over 17 innings, and has a career 4.41 ERA in 80 Major League innings. It would be wise for fantasy managers to take a pass on Albers; his fastball barely reaches the upper 80's, and it is likely he will not be around the Majors for long.

Ben Gamel not in lineup Tuesday

Ben Gamel is not in the lineup Tuesday's game against Baltimore.

Fantasy Implications: Gamel will hit the bench with southpaw Wade Miley pitching for the Orioles. Guillermo Heredia will man left-field in his place, and bat in the two hole. Gamel has been flopping mightily lately, going only 12-43 (.116 AVG) in August. Unless he turns things around soon, the 25-year-old outfielder may be seeing more time on the bench, outside of the platoon role he is currently in with Heredia.

Yonder Alonso not in lineup Tuesday

Yonder Alonso is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Orioles.

Fantasy Implications: Alonso will take a seat Tuesday with left-hander Wade Miley taking the hill for Baltimore. The recently acquired Alonso is in the stronger side of a platoon with Danny Valencia, who will play first base instead, and bat fifth in the order.

Kyle Seager not in the lineup Tuesday

Kyle Seager is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Orioles.

Fantasy Implications: Seager, who left Monday night's contest early after striking out in both his plate appearances, is battling a stomach virus. Danny Espinosa will take his place at third base, and will bat out of the eight hole. It is possible that Seager may also miss Wednesday afternoon's affair with Baltimore.

Nelson Cruz homers again

Nelson Cruz smacked a Miguel Castro 95.7 mph slider for a solo shot over the left-field wall in Seattle's 11-3 loss to the Orioles Monday night. Cruz went 1-4 for the night.

Fantasy Implications: Cruz is wielding a scorching bat as of late. In  August, the veteran designated- hitter has hit eight home runs with 16 RBIs and 10 runs scored, while slashing a draw-dropping .396/.423/.979 in 48 at-bats. He now has 29 homers on the year, and is on pace for hitting 40 for his fourth consecutive season. It goes without saying, he should be active in all fantasy lineups.
