Taylor Motter optioned by Mariners to Triple-A Tacoma

Taylor Motter has been optioned by Seattle to Triple-A Tacoma on Monday. In a corresponding move, the Mariners could add Danny Espinosa, who agreed to a Major League contract with the team on Sunday, to the active roster.

Motter, a 27 year-old infielder, has cooled off considerably, hitting .180 with two home runs and 10 RBI's in his past 52 games. Motter's demotion was sealed when he made a costly base-running error in Sunday's game against the Yankees. He was picked off first base when he came on as a pinch runner in the bottom of the ninth with no outs, and the Mariners trailing by two runs.

Yovani Gallardo pitches five innings in a no-decision

Yovani Gallardo (4-7) allowed three earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out five batters through five innings during Seattle's loss to New York on Sunday.  He did not factor into the decision.

Fantasy Implications: Gallardo gave up the three runs on three solo homers, a lead off blast by Brett Gardner in the first inning, and two by Didi Gregorius in the second and fourth. Despite getting in and out of trouble all game, he was in line for the win.  Unfortunately the bullpen coughed up the lead in the next inning.  Gallardo's next start is scheduled to be against the Mets next weekend.
