Edwin Diaz rediscovers strike zone

Edwin Diaz worked around a leadoff single in the ninth inning to pick up his 28th save of the season in Seattle's 6-5 win over the Braves on Monday. He walked none and stuck out none.

Fantasy Implications: After his debacle against Baltimore Wednesday, where he threw only 16 of 37 pitches for strikes, walking the first three batters, and then plunking two, Diaz has bounced back, earning two saves in as many appearances. Monday, the 23-year-old righty retired the side needing only five pitches, all which were thrown for strikes. Following a leadoff single to Ender Inciarte, Brandon Phillips flew out to right, Inciarte was then thrown out trying to steal second base, and Freddie Freeman grounded out to first base to end the game. Though his 3.67 ERA is unattractive, Diaz' 12.0 K/9 and 1.22 WHIP should appeal to many fantasy owners.

Mitch Haniger back in action

Mitch Haniger was activated from the disabled list on Saturday, and played the final two games of Seattle's series with the Rays in Tampa Bay. Haniger had been out of action recovering from a severe facial laceration he suffered after being hit by a Jacob deGrom wayward pitch.

Fantasy Implications: In the pair of games he played on Saturday and Sunday, Haniger went 2-6 with one home run, four RBIs and one run scored. This was Haniger's second stint on the disabled list, the first caused by an oblique injury that caused him to miss six weeks. Since then, the rookie had been scuffling, slashing a meager .203/.303/.316 in the 37 games he played leading up to his latest injury. For the year, Haniger sports a .257 batting average with eight homers, 28 RBIs, and 37 runs scored.  He has stolen a trio of bases.

Guillermo Heredia not in lineup

Guillermo Heredia is not in the lineup Monday for Seattle's game against the Braves.

Fantasy Implications: Heredia was hitless (0-6) in his last two games in Tampa Bay, striking out three times. Yet prior to that, the 26-year-old outfielder had a modest six-game hitting streak including three multi-hit affairs. He is hitting .280/.343/.389 with six home runs, 22 RBIs and 39 runs scored this season. Leonys Martin will take his place in center field, and bat from the eight spot.

Nelson Cruz not in lineup

Nelson Cruz is not in the starting lineup Monday for Seattle's contest against the Braves.

Fantasy Implications: Monday's game will be the start of a three-game series in Atlanta at SunTrust Park, and thus Seattle will not have the recourse of using a designated hitter. Cruz will be available to come off the bench as a pinch hitter. The veteran slugger has been lobbying to play the field, but manager Scott Servais indicated that Cruz is doubtful to start in right field in any of the trio of games.
