Edwin Diaz picks up save on Tuesday night

Diaz notched his 21st save of the season in Seattle's 8-7 win over the Rangers Tuesday night, pitching a clean ninth inning and recording two strikeouts.

Fantasy implications: The 23-year-old flame-thrower fired nine of 14 pitches for strikes, while retiring the side in order. Diaz, who had a strong July overall, now sports a 3.15 ERA and a fine 1.16 WHIP, so the closer role should remain his going forward. He has electric stuff as evidenced by his 12.61 K/9 on the season.

Justin Smoak homers in Tuesday night's win

Justin Smoak blasted a two-run shot off of Mike Pelfrey that just cleared the right center field wall in the Blue Jay's 8-4 win over Texas Tuesday night. The 30-year-old first baseman also hit a single.

Fantasy implications: Smoak, an eight-year veteran who entered the Majors as a highly touted prospect, but up to this year had been a major bust, has rewarded handsomely those fantasy owners who picked him up as a flyer. In addition to hitting his team-leading 31st home run, he continues his breakout season slashing .302/.379/.601 while collecting 73 RBIs. Continue to insert him into fantasy lineups, as he shows no signs of slowing down.
