Jean Segura went 2-4 Friday night, with a single, a triple, and two runs scored in the Mariners 5-2 win over Kansas City.
Fantasy Implications: Segura, who has been struggling as of late, had seen his batting average plummet from .355 to .315 since July 9th. In 20 games prior to tonight's contest, the 27-year-old shortstop was slashing a paltry .195/.272/.244 while hitting only four extra-base hits ( four doubles) and driving in only three RBIs. Perhaps tonight's efforts will jumpstart him through the rest of the campaign. On the year, Segura has a respectable .318/.365/.436 slash line and 15 stolen bases.

James Paxton records another win
James Paxton (12-3) pitched brilliantly again Friday night, picking up his American League second-leading 12th win of the season, as the Mariners downed the Royals 5-2. In six complete innings, Paxton gave up two runs (both earned) while striking out seven and walking only one.
Fantasy implications: This was Paxton's seventh straight quality start and win in as many tries going back to July 2nd. He threw 95 pitches, 67 which were for strikes. The two runs which he surrendered were on a two-out RBI single by Brandon Moss in the fifth inning, and a two-out wild pitch in the sixth, allowing Whit Merrifield to score from third. Seattle's left-handed ace now leads the American League with a 2.70 ERA, and enjoys a brilliant 1.09 WHIP. Paxton is currently pitching as well as any other pitcher in the Majors. His next scheduled start is on Wednesday against the Angels in Seattle.

Nelson Cruz scratched becaused of neck spasm
Nelson Cruz was scratched just prior to Friday night's game against Kansas City because of a neck spasm.
Fantasy Implications: The cause and extent of the malady are unknown. For now consider the Mariners slugger day-to-day.

Shawn O'Malley is activated from 60-day disabled list
Shawn O'Malley was activated by the Mariners on Friday from the 60-day disabled list, and then optioned to Triple-A Tacoma. To make room for O'Malley on the 40-man roster, Seattle sent pitcher Christian Bergman to the Raniers on outright assignment after he cleared waivers.
Fantasy Implications: O'Malley has yet to play with the Major League club this year. The 29-year-old utility infielder started the season on the 10-day disabled list after he underwent an emergency appendectomy. During his rehab assignment he experienced tendinitis in his right shoulder, and was shifted to the 60-day disabled list ever since. During his 14-day rehab assignment in the minors, O'Malley was slashing .311/.475/.511. With no room for a utility bat on Seattle's roster, he will serve as organizational depth in Tacoma in the event of an injury.

Christian Bergman outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday
Christian Bergman was sent to Triple-A Tacoma on an outright assignment after he cleared waivers on Friday. The move was made to make room on the Mariners' 40-man roster for utility man Shawn O'Malley who was activated today from the 60-day disabled list.
Fantasy implications: The 29-year-old Bergman had made eight starts earlier this year for Seattle. Although three were quality starts, the right-hander was also involved in a nine-run and ten-run blow up before being optioned to the Raniers on June 21st. Since then, Bergman has compiled an 8-3 record with a 5.35 ERA and 1.35 WHIP with the Triple-A team.

Kyle Seager hits home run Thursday night
Kyle Seager smacked a solo home run, his 15th dinger of the year, over the right field wall Thursday night as the Mariners fell to Kansas City 6-4. Seager went hitless in his other three at-bats.
Fantasy implications: The Seattle third baseman has been productive as of late. In his last 24 games, Seager is slashing .284/.356/.568 with five homers, 10 doubles, and 11 RBIs. He continues to have value in all fantasy formats.

Emilio Pagan takes loss Thursday night
Emilio Pagan (0-2) took the loss after allowing three runs (two earned) and two hits, including a solo homer in the eighth inning to Brandon Moss, as Seattle fell to the Royals 6-4 Thursday night in Kansas City. Pagan did not strike out or walk any of the 10 batters he faced in two complete innings of work.
Fantasy Implications: Pagan's body of work this season has earned manager Scott Servais' trust in placing him in some high leverage situations. The 26-year-old righty had given up just one run in his previous 21.1 innings of relief. For the year, Pagan has an impressive 2.77 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, 9.0 K/9, 2.1 BB/9, and 0.7 HR/9. Consider Thursday's performance a slight hiccup on Pagan's resume.

Miguel Gonzalez hammered in Thursday night outing
Miguel Gonzalez (5-10) was totally ineffective Thursday night, suffering the loss in the White Sox 9-5 defeat to Boston. The 33-year-old starter lasted only 1.2 innings surrendering seven runs (all earned) on seven hits, while striking out none and walking none.
Fantasy implications: Gonzalez was pounded continually and often by the Red Sox. Four of Boston's hits were for extra-bases, including a pair of two-run homers hit by Rafael Devers and Mookie Betts. His last seven starts tell how feckless the Gonzalez has been lately. During this time, the right-hander has compiled a 1-5 record, while recording an abysmal 6.63 ERA, 1.83 WHIP, 4.4 K/9, 4.2 BB/9, and 1.7 HR/9. It would be wise to keep him out of fantasy lineups when he is next scheduled to pitch next Wednesday against the league-best Houston offense in Chicago .
