David Phelps injured again

David Phelps was forced to exit Wednesday's game against the Orioles after suffering the same elbow injury that put him on the disabled list earlier this month.

Fantasy Implications: On August 6, the 30-year-old right-hander exited a game against Kansas City with an impingement of his right elbow that caused him to miss over two weeks. Last night, Phelps departed in the sixth inning, signaling to the bench after yielding a two-out walk that loaded the bases. Manager Scott Servais said, “He felt the same thing on the last pitch that he made. He was trying to throw a cutter, and he felt it right there. He felt OK earlier in the game. Its just the last pitch that he felt it.” Because rosters will expand to 40 players on Friday, Phelps will be able to recover without being placed on the disabled list, unless he is expected to miss the rest of the season.  Stay tuned for further updates.

Mike Leake traded to Mariners

Mike Leake was traded from the Cardinals to Seattle on Wednesday in exchange for minor-league infielder Rayder Asconio.

Fantasy Implications: Leake is making $15 million this year, and is under contract for three more years at a guaranteed $48 million with a mutual option for $18 million in 2021 that includes a five-million dollar buyout. The 29-year-old right-hander is expected to step right into Seattle's rotation while Felix Hernandez and James Paxton recover from injuries. He posted a middling 7-12 record with a 4.21 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and 103/25 K/BB over 154 innings this season while pitching for the Cardinals. Since July, Leake has struggled mightily, logging a 1-6 record, 6.94 ERA, and 1.85 WHIP over 10 starts. He is scheduled to make his first start for Seattle against Oakland at Safeco Field.
