Yovani Gallardo surrendered two runs on five hits over three innings in Seattle's 7-6 win over the Athletics Saturday night. He struck out two and walked two, and did not factor into the decision.
Fantasy Implications: Gallardo continues to display his inefficiency as a starter, needing a whopping 80 pitches to get through three innings of work. In fact, in his 22 starts this year, the veteran right-hander has lasted seven innings only once. To make matters worse, his proclivity to give up the long ball was also evident Saturday, as he coughed up two more gopher balls to opposing hitters. He has an unpalatable 1.7 HR/9 on the year, and has yielded at least one homer in seven of his last eight games. Gallardo's true role should be in long-relief, where earlier in the year he was very successful, allowing opposing batters to hit a meager .132/.233/.237 over 11 1/3 innings.
