Shawn O'Malley was activated by the Mariners on Friday from the 60-day disabled list, and then optioned to Triple-A Tacoma. To make room for O'Malley on the 40-man roster, Seattle sent pitcher Christian Bergman to the Raniers on outright assignment after he cleared waivers.
Fantasy Implications: O'Malley has yet to play with the Major League club this year. The 29-year-old utility infielder started the season on the 10-day disabled list after he underwent an emergency appendectomy. During his rehab assignment he experienced tendinitis in his right shoulder, and was shifted to the 60-day disabled list ever since. During his 14-day rehab assignment in the minors, O'Malley was slashing .311/.475/.511. With no room for a utility bat on Seattle's roster, he will serve as organizational depth in Tacoma in the event of an injury.
