Leonys Martin was designated for assignment by Seattle on Wednesday.
Fantasy Implications: Martin was removed from the 40-man roster to make room for relief pitcher David Phelps who was activated from the disabled list in a corresponding move. Martin had been designated for assignment and cleared waivers earlier this year after slashing a dismal .111/.172/ .130 over 58 plate appearances. He then spent time in Triple-A Tacoma and performed well enough to be recalled to the big club on July 30, hitting .230/.266/.426 with three home runs and eight RBIs since then in 19 games. If he doesn't get claimed, the 29-year-old outfielder could remain with the organization and return when rosters expand in September, if not sooner.
